SS13: Get nautical.. Get dapper

Everyone seems to wear striped shirts this summer. In de early advertisement campaigns of the SS13 collections the horizontal stripe was prominent. The most of you will remember the Dolce & Gabbana campaign, it was around that time the tax issues occurred with these fashion wizards. The campaign was full of striping in a nostalgic Sicilian setting.

The 'Breton stripe' gives you that classic look. It was first used by the french navy in the 19th century. Then, after a while all the other workers at sea took notice of the stripe and adopted it. The original 'Breton stripe' design used only 21 stripes. 21 Stripes to remember Napoleon`s 21 victories. In the 20th century it was first used in fashion. Coco Chanel used it in her collection of 1917 (Nautical Collection). In the 50`s it was introduced in film. James Dean, icon pur sang, wore the Breton stripe in the movie 'Rebel Without a Cause' and made it popular in mainstream. Top brands like Gucci, Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier use the Breton stripe quite often. The Breton stipe is percieved as posh because it was frequently used by these top brands.
